Abstract

At present, there is no criterion to estimate the construction duration of a dam in the planning stage. Public agents estimate the construction duration of a dam based on their experience or sometimes, their needs. It often results in insufficient construction time during the construction stage. This results in quality deterioration and economic loss because of carrying out work on urgent basis frequently. Therefore, there has been a constant need for the estimation model of construction duration. This study targets Concrete-Faced Rock-fill Dam (CFRD), which is the most constructed type of dams in Korea. It aims to develop a model for the estimation of the construction duration of a dam in the planning stage. For this purpose, standard C.P. is identified from the process planning data, and the properties of the standard C.P. are analyzed to estimate the duration of each activity on C.P., and then two construction duration estimation models for CFRD are proposed. The results show that the two models have an error under 10% when compared with the estimation based on detailed design.
