Abstract
The total cross sections of virtual photons targets and the photon structure functions are estimated from γ-p, p-p and μ-p total cross section data using factorization. The results available up to Q 2⋍25 GeV 2 are surprisingly good implying that the photon structure function may be reconstructed utilizing knowledge on other channels. Some theoretical and experimental consequences of this analysis are discussed.
