Abstract

Media literacy is a means to read and compose using the dynamic and ubiquitous tools now available on nearly any electronic device. Esthetics helps the media‐literate person to grasp the particulars, or qualities, within media texts. Reasoned perception is a tool for teaching how to perceive the ways in which media texts are constructed and understood. Esthetics and media literacy thus focuses on understanding the relations that perceivers develop as they work through the complexity and nuances of qualities in media texts.
