Abstract
Abstract : Inelastic electron tunneling spectra for esters of the form RCOOR' show that these compounds dissociate on alumina and only the RCOO ion bonds to the surface. For phenethyl benzoate, ethyl-d5 benozate, benzyl-d7 benzoate, the benzoate ion is symmetrically adsorbed. For ethyl-d5 acetate, the spectrum is distinguishable from the spectrum of a symmetrically bonded acetate ion. (Author)
