Abstract
Bronsted acidic ionic liquids were employed as a series of efficient catalysts and solvents in the esterification of alcohols with acetic anhydride at room temperature. Good yields, mild reaction conditions, short reaction time and no side reactions were achieved. The ionic liquids could be recycled easily without obvious decline in catalytic activities.
