Abstract
Asymmetric cell division during the process of sporulation in the bacterium Bacillus subtilis generates dissimilar progeny that exhibit distinct programs of gene transcription. Recent work reveals a partner switching mechanism that governs the activity of the sporulation regulatory protein of and that may be responsible for the establishment of cell type specific gene transcription.
