Abstract

Objective To establish a new nursing performance appraisal system to solve the problem of low efficacy, and to explore its effect on stabilizing the clinical nursing team. Methods Based on the position management, nursing performance was evaluated separately, and a new appraisal system was established to assess nurses′ workload, care quality, nursing risk, experiences, age, post, and shift, etc. Results After implementing the new appraisal system, the goal of synchronizing the workload, job risk, and efficacy was mostly achieved. The pooled increase of nursing performance for the whole 42 inpatient areas was 24.64%. The improvement in the infectious disease department had the greatest increase of 77.8% and the pooled increase for other wards was 19.06%. Unfortunately, six departments showed poorer performance. Conclusions The new nursing performance appraisal system can reflect the value of different levels of nurses and can ensure their working efficacy and enthusiasm.
