Abstract
The Kiryu textile industry began as a simple rural industry, but has developed in modern times into a widely diversified industry which has played a great role in developing this region. With the development of modern manufacturing processes, Kiryu textiles has found markets throughout the world.The economic well-being of the Kiryu region depends now largely on the health of this industry.This study investigates the development of this industry from its early foundation to the present. It is particularly concerned with the development of manufacturing processes and the interaction of this essential industry with the regional structure and development of the Kiryu area.
