Abstract

This paper presents a technical solution to establish the machining process for complex structural products made from aluminum alloy plates used in the aerospace industry. Those products have a very tight tolerance for geometrical deviations and positioning characteristics. To achieve a good product and ensure the machining process, repeatability is necessary to solve two issues: first, the temperature dilatation impact, and second the raw material behavior. To solve these problems, several tests were performed for products used in the aerospace industry. For deviations identification, all products were measured using a coordinate measuring machine, and the resulting report data was used for statistical analysis. Using this information, appropriate processing strategies were established. Through several tests and recording all dimensions changes during the milling process, good products were obtained, and it was ensured repeatability of the machining process.
