Abstract

Last month's MTM Pearls column discussed how patients may be more willing to attend a pharmacist-managed MTM service if their physician or primary care provider encouraged or referred them to the service. Establishing a referral system is not an easy task and requires some effort and ongoing communication with other providers. Benefits of a successful referral system are an increase in patient acceptance and number of MTM interventions, and ultimately improvement in drug therapy. In a recent article, authors described their process for establishing a referral system for MTM services in an integrated health system.
