Abstract

This is a review book from 35 contributors, which will serve as a reference for residents finishing in otolaryngology or for practitioners of this specialty. The book is basically in outline form with 38 chapters. It is designed to include many facts in an encyclopedic style and contains a chapter on syndromes and eponyms. Especially pertinent and valuable are chapters on anatomy, and audiology, including brain-stem responses and the vestibular system. Chapters on facial plastic surgery, radiology, anesthesia, frequently omitted elsewhere, are included in this textbook. The editor has evidently made an attempt to update, which is manifested by chapters in immunology and chemotherapy. As is inevitable in a book of this type, a number of chapters, such as the one on antibiotics, are poorly drawn together. The editor would have been much more successful to include a short chapter on antibiotics by Dr David Fairbanks, whose chapters on this
