Abstract

The essential oil of Renealmia alpinia occurring in the pre-Amazon region was analyzed by GC and GC-MS. Thirty-five constituents were identified in the leaf oil of R. alpinia with the predominance of β-caryophyllene (22.9%), β-pinene (12.0%), spathulenol (10.0%), alloaromadendrene (8.3%), γ-cadinene (5.3%) and germacrene D (5.1%). Thirty-two compounds were identified in the fine stem oil with alloaromadendrene (15.7%), spathulenol (12.1%), germacrene D (9.9%), β-pinene (9.5%), γ-cadinene (9.1%), epi-cubebol (5.3%) and β-caryophyllene (5.1%) as the main components. Twenty-eight constituents were identified in the fruit oil where β-phellandrene (60.4%) and β-pinene (19.8%) were the principal compounds.
