Abstract

The chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Matricaria discoidea DC. (Asteraceae) grown in Alberta, Canada, was analyzed by GC/FID and GC/MS. Thirty-six compounds were identified, accounting for 86.7% of the oil composition. The major constituents were myrcene (28.5%), (E)-β-farnesene (23.4%), germacrene D (6.8%), geranyl isovalerate (6.4%) and (Z)-en-yn-dicycloether (8.1%). The oil yield obtained by hydrodistillation was 0.1% (w/w) on dry weight basis.
