Abstract

There are few references about foot pathology. The most renowned case is the poliomyelitis foot deformity of the Pharaoh Siptah from XIX dynasty of the Egyptian New Kingdom discovered in December 1905 by Ayrton. In the analysis of 31 Guanche mummies (Guanches were the primitive inhabitants of the Canary Islands prior to Spanish conquest), we have found four cases of foot disease: a foot with a vertical calcaneous, a talus osteochondritis, a subluxation of the subtalar joint articulation due to a degenerative or inflammatory disease and, the present case, a bilateral club-foot of an mummy from Araya de Candelaria Site from the XII to XIII century AD.
