Abstract
Summary Purified preparations of RNA polymerase obtained by Babinet 's method contain, apart from sub-units ββ, σ and α, two fractions called τ and μ identified by electrophoresis in a dissociating medium (SDS). Antibodies have been obtained with each of those five fractions, after immunization. They precipitate with the native purified preparations of enzyme and with the immunizing fractions. The presence of a cross-reaction between the sub-units ββ′ and σ factor or a fraction showing a very similar mobility is discussed. Different experiments suggest that fractions τ and μ are likely to form associations with the enzymatic fraction and in the case of μ fraction with the subunits ββ′.
