Abstract

The decay behaviour of alkyl radicals were studied in several polyethylenes and 1,16- hexadecane-diols by electron spin resonance technique. From a comparison of decaying temperatures of alkyl radicals in normal polyethylenes and those in urea-polyethylene complexes in which inter-chain migration of alkyl radicals is much less probable, it is suggested that intra-chain migration is not important in the normal state up to 350 K. The decay of alkyl radicals in normal polyethylene is mainly due to inter-chain migrations. The above suggestions was supported by a difference in conversion temperatures from the alkyl to the ∼ CH 2-CH-OH radical of hexadecanediol between in the normal state and in the urea complex.
