Abstract

A new paramagnetic compound has been found in the reaction between DPPH and the PbO 2 surface at 313 K. From the ESR studies and chemical analysis, it is revealed that this paramagnetic product is a biradical which is formed by the condensation of two peroxides. The peroxide originates from the reaction between DPPH and surface HOO − species. Since the radical-radical distance is found to be 8.6 Å, the scheme ▪ is derived.
