Abstract

We report on ESR measurements in single crystals of the high-temperature superconductors YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ as function of temperature and annealing conditions. The samples were characterized by magnetic susceptibility. ESR was carried out in both a superconducting, T c = 89 K, and ΔT = T 90% - T 10% = 1.5 K, and a semiconducting sample. We find no ESR signal on both phases at 300 K, as well as at 4.2 K. The absence of singal is analyzed in terms of the Cu valence and oxygen content. These results show undoubtedly, that any ESR signal on the superconducting 90 K phase of YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ comes from an impurity phase.
