Abstract

Single crystals of anhydrous ..cap alpha..-D-glucopyranose x irradiated at 12 and 77/sup 0/K contain four free-radical species: two secondary alkoxy radicals centered at O-2, a primary hydroxyalkyl radical centered at C-6, and a secondary hydroxyalkyl radical centered at C-3. Structural considerations are discussed, and the radicals compared with four radicals found in single crystals of ..cap alpha..-D-glucopyranoside x irradiated under similar conditions. 4 figures, 3 tables.
