Abstract

1. By means of ESR, we have identified the spin adducts of 2,4,6-tri-tert-butylnitroso-benzene, nitrosodurene, 2-methyl-2-nitrosopropane, and α-phenyl-N-tert-butylnitrone with the radicals Re(CO)5, Mn(CO)5, CpFe(CO)2, and CpMo(CO)3, formed by photochemical decomposition of transition-metal complexes in the presence or absence of CCl4 in the reaction mixture. 2. By various methods, rate constants have been determined for the addition of these radicals to the traps, and it has been shown that in identifying the metal carbonyl radicals by means of ESR, nitrosodurene is the most active of the spin traps that were investigated.
