Abstract
: Obesity is a prevalent cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. It is a demonstrated risk factor for the development of many types of cancers, esophageal adenocarcinoma included. Esophagectomy in obese patients is a safe and feasible procedure which leads to good oncological and clinical outcomes. However, the surgical management of esophageal cancer in patients with BMIs in the range of obesity presents specific challenges involving pre-operative testing, anesthesia management, technical precautions and post-operative concerns. These aspects are here reviewed and discussed.
