Abstract

This set of school buildings can house between 700 and 800 pupils. It has 21 standard classrooms. Five of these, to be used by the youngest children, are grouped together in a single, one floor, building. Another building, which has two floor levels, is taken up with 16 classrooms and rooms for private lessons, to be used by older pupils. In these classrooms the tables are mobile, and make it easy to adopt a freer and more personal system of teaching. The school has rooms to study applied art, general crafts, natural history, home crafts, physics, and art. It has also a gymnasium, a library and a writing room. There are some school rooms which can be adapted to various functions. Provision has been made for a medical section, which includes doctor's, nurse's and dentist's surgeries. General services include showers, bathrooms, and living quarters for the porter. The outdoor space is divided into two recreation squares and two playing fields. The buildings are either of one or two storeys, and harmonise well with the neighbouring residential district. It has been possible to preserve the majority of the beautiful old trees that grow on the site.
