Abstract
A new regimen for the administration of an oral contraceptive, consisting of 16 tablets of estrogen, 6 of estrogen plus progestogen, and 6 inert tablets is described. Clinical studies of effectiveness involved 3,361 women and 26,686 cycles (2,053 woman-years). There were 12 pregnancies due to patient failure and none due to alleged method failure. The pregnancy rate was 0.54 per 100 woman-years by the Pearl formula and 0.3% by the life table technique.
