Abstract

The Engineering Specific Career Advisory Problem-solving Environment (ESCAPE) system was developed to help students learn more about engineering as a career. It was developed originally in 1987 at Purdue as HyperCard stacks for different fields of engineering. This stack organization remains, though ESCAPE is presently web based. Recent updates and modifications reflect current web practices including more links to key career planning resources, engineering education, and employment information. ESCAPE presents its users with descriptions of the different fields of engineering and their roles and functions in society. It also provides information about engineering organizations and publications in general as well as specifics on various fields of engineering. Typical plans of study available at Purdue University and links to those at other institutions are also available for students to use in their education and career planning. This paper discusses the recent changes and plans for the future, including presentation of problem-solving information and representative engineering problems.
