Abstract

The article discusses one of the most urgent problems of modern Russia, namely, the growth of labour migration, associated with an unfavourable socio-psychological climate of the host country and insufficient competence of the authorities making decisions on migration regulation. Statistical and sociological data on the assessment of the current situation in Sverdlovsk oblast were considered. The main reasons for the escalation of interethnic conflicts against the backdrop of labour migration were identified. As a result, the research revealed low awareness of local residents about the negative demographic situation, as well as about the consequences of an insufficiently developed policy, which hinders the formation of a respectful attitude towards foreign and Russian labour migrants of various nationalities. The article sets a further direction for finding a compromise in order to more effectively prevent the escalation of national and ethnic conflicts due to the inevitable growth of labour migration between local residents, public authorities, and, directly, migrants, whose presence is very important for the country or its particular regions.
