Abstract
This article marks the conclusion to the development of the European Sealing Association (ESA) guidance note on best available techniques (BAT). Although the document is aimed primarily at the industrial sectors which are covered by the Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Directive, it is applicable in virtually all process industries. The guidance notes now contain life cycle cost data and environmental impact charts for mechanical seals and valve packings.
