Abstract

This course started as a Freshman Seminar developed by Professors Cole and Firmage (Biology), Shattuck (Chemistry), and Tietenberg (Economics). Professor Fleming (Science-Technology Studies) joined the team in 1990. The success of the course led to the creation of a minor in environmental studies. The minor consists of six courses, and is available to all majors. It is designed to introduce students to environmental issues and their ramifications in the context of the social and natural sciences and the humanities. Colby also has environmental science concentrations available to biology, chemistry, and geology majors.
