Abstract
Various forms of porphyria<sup>1</sup>have been reported in association with lupus erythematosus (LE). Although the nature of the association is unclear, it has been proposed that it is not coincidental. No reports of erythropoietic protoporphyria in association with LE have been published. We describe a young man with both diseases. <h3>Report of a Case.</h3> A 34-year-old white man developed two asymptomatic plaques on his forehead 1 month before presentation. In addition, he described a lifelong history of intolerance to sunlight. He reported that following 20 to 60 minutes of sun exposure, burning and stinging of the sun-exposed skin developed in association with erythema and edema, which persisted for 1 to 2 days. He also noted the slow appearance of scarlike lesions over his hands and forearms. A sister and two brothers have similar sensitivity to sunlight.
