Abstract

An investigation is described of the charges on droplets produced by water drops which splash on flat surfaces and sharp edges. They are found to be opposite in sign and to increase in magnitude with the potential gradient. The contribution such charges make to the total current registered by a shielded rain-collector is estimated and appears to be important in high potential gradients.
