Abstract

It is a well-known fact that use of sequence component method for fault analysis of power distribution systems introduces errors. However, few studies are published that attempt to quantify such errors. This paper presents such quantification for IEEE 13-bus, 34-bus, and 123-bus distribution systems. All major types of faults are considered at each bus and results using the sequence component model are compared with results using the three-phase model. The spectrum of errors for each type of fault is presented through graphs.
