Abstract

Summary A considerable error in the radiologic diagnosis of gastric carcinoma exists. Divided attention is the major offender. Poor technic and inexperience are also prominent causes. Since these causes can be combated, it is possible, with free use of re-examination, to further improve the diagnostic accuracy. High figures of diagnostic accuracy published by some workers do not give a true picture of the general situation. They are biased by the material on which the figures are based. No evidence in this study is presented to answer the question whether improved diagnosis will appreciably lower the mortality rate of gastric cancer. That question must wait until more material is gathered over a longer period of time.
