Abstract

ac susceptibility measurements may contain significant errors when performed against a background magnetic field produced by a surrounding solenoid. The errors arise from mutual inductance between the field coil and excitation coil. An analysis of this source of error is given and a simple means by which this error may be largely eliminated is described.
