Abstract

This paper presents a complete analysis for the derivation of the probability of error for a hypothetical pure frequency-hopping (FH) spread-spectrum communication system, employing a binary differential phase-shift-keyed (DPSK) modulation and differentially coherent demodulation, in a partial-band jamming environment. The postulated DPSK/FH spread-spectrum system could be a practical system if the operational environment is multipath free. The optimum partial-band and wide-band jamming performance measures are obtained and compared under certain parametric conditions on the communicator's power levels. The present analysis is based on the application of the author's recent results on the derivation of the probability density functions (pdf) for the output of a cross correlator with arbitrary bandpass inputs of different power levels.
