Abstract

In this paper, a precise error-tracking scheme for robust transmission of real-time video streaming over wireless IP network is presented. By utilizing negative acknowledgements from feedback channel, the encoder can precisely calculate and track the propagated errors by examining the backward motion dependency. With this precise tracking, the error-propagation effects can be terminated completely by INTRA refreshing the affected macroblocks. In addition, due to lots of INTRA macroblocks refresh will entail a large increase of the output bit rate of a video encoder, several bit rate reduction techniques are proposed. They can be jointly used with INTRA refresh scheme to obtain uniform video quality performance instead of only changing the quantization scale. The simulations show that both control strategies yield significant video quality improvements in error-prone environments
