Abstract

Owing to an error in production, the article entitled ‘Sanctions, situations, and agency in control theories of crime’ by Michael R. Gottfredson (European Journal of Criminology 2011 8: 128, DOI: 10.1177/1477370810392968) is incorrect. SAGE apologises to the author and to the readers. The final sentence of the article should read as follows:’ ‘Belief in the moral validity of rules constrains these choices for those who strongly hold such beliefs; fear of sanctions (either formal or informal) does not constrain individuals who do not perceive them in their environment, and, once developed, self-control guides decisions to offend, unconsciously many times a day, and occasionally deliberately guides such decisions.’
