Abstract
The photograph (reproduced here) that accompanied the answer to the November 1995 Arcanum (1995;21:1285) was incorrectly identified as a statue of Joseph Meister, the 9-year-old boy who was the first recipient of Pasteur's postexposure prophylaxis for rabies. The statue, which is located in front of the Pasteur Institute in Paris, actually commemorates Jean Baptiste Jupille of Villers-Farlay in the Jura, who at age 15 was severely bitten while trying to protect several other children from a rabid dog. He was the second person to receive Pasteur's treatment (6 days after the attack).
