The paragraph should have begun as follows: “An alternative explanation, the local-slant hypothesis, suggests that location of the CoP is not recovered. Instead, the observed invariance is due to an adjustment of the retinal-image shape based on measurements of the local slant of the picture surface at the point of interest.
