In “Nutrition Therapy,” Canadian Journal of Diabetes 2018;42(S1):S64-S79, on page S73 under the “Alcohol” section, the size of 1 standard alcoholic drink was incorrectly stated as 10 g alcohol. The goals of nutrition therapy are to maintain or improve quality of life and nutritional and physiological health; and to prevent and treat acute- and long-term complications of diabetes, associated comorbid conditions and concomitant disorders. It is well documented that nutrition therapy can improve glycemic control (1) by reducing glycated hemoglobin (A1C) by 1.0% to 2.0% (2–5) and, when used with other components of diabetes care, can further improve clinical and metabolic outcomes (3,4,6,7), resulting in reduced hospitalization rates (8).
