Abstract
Non carious lesions are defined as the loss of hard dental tissue without bacterial involvement and they comprise abfraction, attrition, abrasion and erosion. In dental erosion, the damage in the hard dental tissue happens by the action of extrinsic and/or intrinsic acids. Because of its growing occurrence in the population, this paper objective is to discuss etiology, diagnosis and characteristics of the intrinsic erosion, highlighting the dentist importance on that diagnosis. Thus, dentists must be able to identify such lesions correlating them with the information gotten in anamnesis to assist his client directing him to a specialist and/or through odontological interventions.
