Abstract
This paper deals with the erodib ility of soils in general and fine grained soils in particular. A definition of erodibility is first proposed. Then, the erodibility of fine grained soils is discussed including the soil properties influencing the resistance to erosion. It is found that it is a combination of many common soil properties which combine to form the resistance to erosion and that developing a simple correlation between such common soil properties and the resistance to erosion is not economical. Instead it is recommended to measure the resistance to erosion with a new device which is presented including the test procedure, data reduction and example results.
