Abstract

This paper looks at the history of Averroe’s Commentary to the Poetics of Aristotle, attempting to clarify the theoretical basis of Averroe’s analysis and studying the transmission and fortune of this text in the Latin world. Particular attention is devoted to the translation of Herman the German (1256) which is contrasted with the Arabic original, and, to commentaries of the Poetics by Latin authors (Bartholomy of Bruges, Roger Bacon) who base themselves on Herman’s translation.
