Abstract

This chapter presents an overview on epistemic power of the intellect in Pomponazzi. It discusses the radical hylemorphistic perceptive intellect, which is developed by Pomponazzi through his discussion of the question of immortality. With Pomponazzi opinion on the ontological status of the human intellect is obviously formed so a particular theoretical model about the nature of intellective knowledge, whose cornerstone is the adoption of a more causal role of phantasms in the intellective cognition process. The chapter discusses the object intellective cognition and the nature and function of intellective representations. It examines Pomponazzi abstraction with respect to the Peripatetic tradition. Pomponazzi Itself uses the term abstration to describe the psychological process, from the view of intellective cognition. The chapter finally discusses the causal factors of abstraction and role of the active intellect. The original text of the chapter is in German. Keywords: epistemic power; hylemorphistic perceptive intellect; intellective cognition; intellective knowledge; ontological status; Peripatetic tradition; Pomponazzi abstraction
