Abstract

Schema Therapy was developed as an integrative approach to treat chronic mental disorders that are difficult to treat. Early maladaptive schemas are widespread beliefs that consist of early memories, emotions, thoughts and sensations and are a source of information about the person’s relationship with himself and others. There is a relationship between early maladaptive schemas and mental disorders. In this article, studies examining the relationship between early maladaptive schemas and anxiety disorders are reviewed. Within the scope of the Schema Therapy model, research on anxiety disorders, Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia, Social Phobia and Separation Anxiety Disorder is presented.
