Abstract
Aceria tulipae (K.), Abacarus hystrix (Nal.) and Vasates mckenziei (K.) occur on wheat and Agropyron repens (L.) Beauv. naturally infected with Agropyron mosaic virus (AMV) in Ontario, but none of these mites has been proved a vector of this virus. A. tulipae from naturally diseased wheat caused a mild chlorotic mottle of wheat similar to mild strains of wheat spot mosaic from Alberta. Mites reared from eggs hatched on healthy wheat did not cause chlorotic symptoms on wheat. Wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV) has not been found in Ontario, but A. tulipae from Ontario transmitted this virus as efficiently as a culture of A. tulipae from Alberta.
