Abstract

Ericoid mycorrhiza found to be associated with the members of family Ericaceae, which enables the plants to establish in inhospitable environments such as heathlands, bogs and evergreen forests. Limited number of mycosymbionts are associated in formation of this type of mycorrhiza. So, it is necessary to establish the specificity of fungal endophyte and host plant. This has driven the research to the development of different techniques viz. isolation and identification using different cytological techinques and enzyme estimations. This review describes the different techniques used for isolation and identification of fungi inhabitating ericaccous roots and for the culture of mycorrhiza under aseptic conditions.
