Abstract

F ^^ rich Fromm has not written any books directly concerned with education. But he has influenced the way many students and teachers think about education through such major works as Escape from Freedom and Man for Himself Moreover, he touches on education in more recent writings, such as his reflections on SummerhiU School in England. I do not share his judgments concerning Summerhill. However, my own thinking about education and my work over many years as an educational reformer have benefited from his work and personal example from the time of our first meeting in 1939.
