Abstract

Macrofossils, both intact flowers and seeds, of Erica scoparia found in peat from the Gortian Interglacial, at Gort, Ireland, were originally correctly identified. A subsequent, unnoticed mistake has led to the illogical use of the name Bruckenthalia spiculifolia (now Erica spiculifolia) and, consequently, the erroneous deletion of E. scoparia from accounts of the Quaternary flora of Ireland.
