Abstract
Bis zu einem Fünftel aller Schwangeren entwickelt vor oder in den Wochen nach der Geburt eine Depression. Da andere postpartale psychiatrische Krankheitsbilder wie Psychosen, affektive oder Angsterkrankungen mit einem erhöhten Sterberisiko einhergehen, stellt sich die Frage, ob dies auch für die peripartale Depression gilt. Unklar ist auch, in welchem Ausmaß einem möglicherweise erhöhten Mortalitätsrisiko familiäre Prädispositionen zugrunde liegen.
