Abstract
Manufacturers are forced to improve the flow of assembly orders in order to meet demands on short delivery times. At the same time, the human factor is increasingly important. To improve assembly processes and workstation design, a participatory approach was developed by TNO and applied in companies. Goals of this approach are lead time reduction and improvement of ergonomics. In March 2000 the European project PSIM was launched. PSIM means Participative Simulation environment for Integral Manufacturing enterprise renewal. The ERGO-Sociotechnical (EIS) tool, is developed within the PSIM project. This software tool helps in the evaluation of assembly processes.
