Abstract

Traffic signs are one of the required road safety equipment and easily found throughout the world. Comprehension of traffic signs is absolutely necessary to improve aspects of driving safety. This paper aims to discuss several previous studies related to drivers’ comprehension of traffic signs. This comprehension is related to human information processing between humans and systems. In addition, ergonomic principles are also considered in it. From the review, it is known that there are several evaluation methods that have been developed to test the comprehension level of traffic signs. In the end, it can be concluded that human characteristics, ergonomic principles, and cognitive sign design features play important role in traffic signs comprehension and design.
